Tooling Split Failing

Tooling Split Failing

(OP)
Hi there,
Im a student at university and im doing a live project with a company but Im the only designer there and Ive hit some issues that uni cannot help me with.
Im trying to make a tool for a glove shaped product thats made fully from surfacing, I need urgent help to get the tooling to work.
Ive attached the file, could someone please have a look and see if you can make it a two part mold please.
Really really urgent, hand in date very soon.

Thanks in advance for any help

RE: Tooling Split Failing

I tried to open your program, however it has faces missing especially around the thumb area.
What is this for? There may be a way to simplify it.

Hi,
Its going to be a form of hand protection, how would I simplify it? This is the first product Ive had to use surfacing on so im really getting quite fustrated haha

I keep getting an error that the parting surface must be larger than the boundaries of the sketch,

what does this mean? Ive tried looking it up online but I cant make out what they mean.

RE: Tooling Split Failing

kris,
Few things to review
1. If you check the draft, the thumb area and wrist area on the other side are showing negative draft. You must correct this before splitting into core and cavity.
2. Your parting surface after the split should go horizontal, not vertical as shown in your model.
3. Please look at the mold tutorial in your SW, to get a better idea of mold construction.

Which version of SW are you using?

Hi there,
Thanks for the tips, im usng 2011/12. How would I make sure the split goes horizontal not vertical?
Ive had a go on that tutorial and Ive tried to follow it as much as possible. Not got the hang of this surfacing yet :(

Ive managed it now, thanks for all of your help, I would still be interested to know how I would be able to simplify the model though as previously mentioned.
Cheers
