Anorher User Opens Specification File and It Reads "Read Only"?

Anorher User Opens Specification File and It Reads "Read Only"?

Anorher User Opens Specification File and It Reads "Read Only"?

(OP)
UG/NX 7.5 on Windows XP Dell Workstation.

I have saved all the models, model assembly, and specification drawing files correctly and then closed them all.

The files have not been statused in Team Center and the same files are not Checked Out by me.

When another user opens the files UG/NX states the files are "Read Only".

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks for your help in advance.

RE: Anorher User Opens Specification File and It Reads "Read Only"?

It's not clear, are you are you not running under Teamcenter?

If not, then your system's OS is controlling access to your files.  You've got to set up your system so that files created by you can be opened and modified by everyone or else they belong to you and you alone.  On Windows it's called 'Managing Permissions' so if it's not behaving as you expected I would check your Windows help for entries on setting and controlling permissions on files and folders (remember, you have to access to both the file and folder).

Yes we are using Team Center 2007.

Could the "(Modified)" issue upon openning file per my other thread have something to do with this issue?

RE: Anorher User Opens Specification File and It Reads "Read Only"?

No, I don't think the modified issue is effecting this other than perhaps make it apparent quicker that you don't have access since the system now thinks that since the file is tag 'modified' that you will eventually try and save it.  However, since you are running under Teamcenter then ultimately it has the say as to who has read AND write access to all the files being managed by it.  You will need to talk to your TC administrator to take care of this as I couldn't really tell you what might have happened in this type of situation.

Thanks again John, I will do as you suggested and contact our Team Center Admin.

If we get an answer I will post again what happened.

It turns out the individual trying to open the file in question had been locked out of a particulat Team Center server.  Issue solved, thanks for the help.
