We are looking at purchasing a Romer or faro arm.

Does NX have a built in application or plug in that will allow direct "importing" of 3D laser scanner data?

That depends on what sort of format does the scanner output the file in.  Look at the specifications for the scanner, checking the type file formats it outputs.  If they match any of the standard data formats supported by NX for importing data, then give that a try.  BTW, I would ask for a sample data file from the scanner vendor before I actually paid them any money.

If this doesn't prove to suitable we have another product which can be used to convert/reverse engineer to scanner data into geometry more suitable for a CAD system such as NX.  This product is called 'Imageware' and is also available from Siemens PLM Software.  For more information, go to:
