Does anyone use NX to program for a 5 axis CNC?

Curious about this because I was told that NX's post builder is not sophisticated enough to write a post script for our Thermwood 5-axis CNC. Thanks!

EDIT: We currently program in Master Cam and use a post script that we purchased and cannot edit.

Unless the control is very unusual, this should not be a problem.

In fact there is a Thermwood post in the free library that may give you a good starting point. Go to Help --> Online Technical Support --> Download NC Postprocessor.

RE: Does anyone use NX to program for a 5 axis CNC?

I think its a very unusual post to ask whether NX can be used for 5 axis programming. Its widely proven in this part of the world and anywhere else also that nx is a valuable tool for 5 axis programming( at least better than mcam when it comes to CAD and CAM together).

As far as Thermwood is concerned, any post in nx has got a high scope of customization provided you have a fair amount of knowledge of postbuilder and TCL. I think specialist people in the forum may help you if you ask for.

I myself built a 5 axis PP for Makino long ago for NX and still running smooth, ofcourse calls for improvement.

Unlike UGNX, editing MCam posts actually needs no knowledge of any programing language, please contact mcam for a special training on PP eidting.

I agree that it seems unusual. We use NX for all of our modeling and for our 3 axis thermwood router (I wrote the post for it) and our 4-axis HAAS (do not know who wrote post for it). But apparently we have been using Master Cam for the 5-axis. I hate doing this because that means we have to convert the files and thus loose parameters and ability to quickly update tool models and programming. I asked our 5-axis programmer why we do this and he told me that the post for the 3-axis is a barbaric post and UG post builder isn't sophisticated enough to create a proper post. He said something about we didn't get the setup we should have gotten with continuous 5-axis and that if we did it could work but since we don't have that it wont w/o doing a lot of backing out and messing with it. That part I don't really understand at all as I am not really a CNC programmer. Just wanted to hear some other opinions because it really struck me as odd for him to say NX can't really do it. Thanks for your input.

Friend ... I have this working normally post in 5 axes
in Brazil I myself developed with post builder
where I am a specialist in NX, today Mastercam is too late
as 5-axis, then analize before talking about nx, today
leading him ,and if you need a post for your machine I can easily develop with post builder, though as Mark said
and an unusual job, but I can realize your dream.

Hug !!!!
