Power Measurement in Industrial Machinery

Power Measurement in Industrial Machinery

Power Measurement in Industrial Machinery

(OP)
We are trying to produce a stage 3 energy audit for a plastic manufacturing company.
The company runs on 3 phase and has a large variety of different machinery (blow molders, injection molders, compressors, refrigerators etc)
The first stage is to measure the power consumption of each machine and determine how much it is contributing to the monthly electricity bill.
What is the best method to do this?
Are there any pieces of equipment I can use (such as something similar to the kill-a-watt) which can attach to each machine and measure kW usage each hour etc?
The machines run on demand so therefore taking an average from the specifications sheet would be too inaccurate.

Any help would be much appreciated

RE: Power Measurement in Industrial Machinery

There are many devices available.  Many as well are available for rental.  For this, generally, clamp on Current Transformers are used.  Likely you will be working around live circuits.  If you dont feel comfortable, or are not properly trained, hire a service company to perform this.

Fluke as well as others have many units available for power audits.

Metrosonics and Power Monitors Inc are 2 others that immediately come to mind.
