HRSG, CHP Operation Resources Sought
HRSG, CHP Operation Resources Sought
(OP)
I am a metallurgist/welding engineer consulting for power generation companies - mostly failure analysis so far. Not having grown up in plant operation, I lack the knowledge that would be helpful in growing the scope of my business into other areas of metallurgical and mechanical reliability. I am looking for digital resources to help guide me through the forest of plumbing while making me sound halfway intelligent.
Would the HRSG Users Guide Handbook be a useful start?
Thanks in advance.

I'd also suggest reading through (most of) these:

Lots of background information there too.

I want to eventually construct an asset management model that considers metallurgical problem areas - tube failures, FAC, creep, etc. Part of this is know the components that are affected.
RE: HRSG, CHP Operation Resources Sought
tube failure - hydrogen embrittlement
FAC - economizer is favorite location (1.5 X the diameter after a bend)
creep - main steam header
just to mention a few generalities. you need time on outage inspections and a whole lot of research in order to do what (i think) you are trying to do.
nothing beats experience. good luck on your journey.

In hiring consultants, I always look for what a consultant can bring to the table - plant experience and reputation. With that said, I may be your competition after July. Look out (LOL).

Sounds like you are counting the days. Hope you are far away or I am toast! I am more of a F/A generalist but find myself concentrating on refinery and power gen.
I will accept the consensus that there is no substitute for experience, although I believe there must be a textbook somewhere that at least explains the basics. Googling reveals many aftermarket $eminar providers that I am sure the plants use extensively for training. Are there universities that offer courses or programs?
