Variable Speed Drive for Single Phase Motor

Variable Speed Drive for Single Phase Motor

Variable Speed Drive for Single Phase Motor

(OP)
Is there a manufacturer who makes a Variable Speed Drive for a 1 HP, 230 volt Single Phase Motor?

RE: Variable Speed Drive for Single Phase Motor

The ACS 100 1-phase AC inverter (from ABB) is a simple way of controlling small AC motors Voltage: 1-phase 200 - 240 V. Frequency: 50 or 60 Hz.

RE: Variable Speed Drive for Single Phase Motor

This may be late but...
The stated drive is single phase input but it still outputs to a 3 phase motor. Variable freq (inverters) are only applicable to 3 phase motors.
So if you have a single phase motor you cannot control the speed with an inverter drive.

RE: Variable Speed Drive for Single Phase Motor

This is even later.....(I've just stumbled across this thread)
As far as I'm aware there is no speed controller available for single phase motors.  There are however torque controllers.  These simply alter the voltage to the motor.  Speed is a function of the motor torque versus the load torque requirements.
I have heard of an application that used a standard VFD to control the speed of a single phase motor by disconnecting the start capacitor.
