Circuit Breaker Test Sets

Can anyone suggest a high amperage(2000 amps max)tester? Used primarily for single phase reclosers, three phase reclosers and sectionalizers? Appreciate your time

RE: Circuit Breaker Test Sets

Hi
I work at a utility in Colombia and we have a tester AVO MULTIAMP OCR-8015-C

RE: Circuit Breaker Test Sets

We use Phenix, they seem to be ok also.  They come in a couple of flavors, we have the 4000 amp and 50kAmp models.  Have had them for about 5 years, some minor problems, but OK.

Omicron CPC-100 and dont look back

RE: Circuit Breaker Test Sets

smallgreek, the CPC100 is a fantastic unit, but it does have its limitations in terms of output current. I have a feeling that with a separate booster unit it still tops out at 1600A, 800A as a standalone unit.

From a 120 V source you are correct ~1600A.  @ 240V you get the full 2000A from the booster - the currents are time limited and self protected (will shut itself off).  For field applications, I've worked with folks that set up 240V in service trucks using 2 UPS units in series - it worked very well.

The CPC will work well with low impedance devices, such as vacuum reclosers, switches, etc.  For older hydrolic units, the impedance is too high. It will also test CT's, contact resistance, can do secondary tests on the controller, etc.

To the OP - where do you plan on using the set -in the field or in the shop?

Thanks for your input. Appreciate the heads up

Look for a Foster PCITS. I think they're good for 2000A and are vaguely portable. I have a suspicion that Foster were absorbed by either AVO or Megger.
