2014 Al heat treat question

2014 Al heat treat question

2014 Al heat treat question

(OP)
Hi everyone, I hope I'm in the right place for this. I'm new to this board, so bear with me.

I'm having some performance testing issues with some parts I work with, and the failures seem to be related to the parts' heat treatment.  I have a quick questions, and any assistance would be much appreciated.

I want to better control the incoming raw material condition. The only related in process test I have readily available for these parts is a hardness test, and we certify our raw material with ultimate tensile and yield strength,  Is there a direct relationship between material hardness and ultimate tensile / yield strength?

Thanks for your help!

RE: 2014 Al heat treat question

Without stating the materials involved, its impossible to give an answer. Which materials in what condition? Certainly some materials in limited ranges have relationships between hardness and yield strength.
