viewing help files with chrome?

(OP)
Hello

How can I view NX help files with Google Chrome?
They are showed blank.
I have Javascript enabled and no adblock or spam filter enabled.
I can only view them using Internet Explorer.

RE: viewing help files with chrome?

Officially, NX Help is only supported by IE (Internet Explorer) on Windows.  If you manage to get it working using some other browser, more power to you, but if you can't, please don't call GTAC as they are not going to be able to provide much, is any, help.

OK, but maybe you have some trick or tip?

RE: viewing help files with chrome?

I'm able to see the help files with Firefox, so i can't see where the problem lies with Chrome. But maybe you can look at the hardware/software rendering settings of the browser, there should be some settings in the options menu.
This is sometimes an issue, also with other browsers.

Michaël.

RE: viewing help files with chrome?

if I press F1, and the help opens in firefox, I can't see them either (nothing but a white screen)

However, when I go to help/NX help... it opens the help library and that one does work.

RE: viewing help files with chrome?

Good tip Walterke, so i would suggest that SkanSkan locate the HTML files and try open them directly from their location on the (network) local drive.

MickyV007, that was what I was trying,
opening directly the html from the disk.
But I get a blank page.

I've read that the problem is that Chrome doesn't support Activex.
I've tried several Chrome Activex addons but don't work.
The only think that work is IE tab. This is like emulating IE inside Chrome. I would prefer to use Chrome natively.

Firefox works properly.

RE: viewing help files with chrome?

Chrome won't work as it's designed to not render local files. Do a google search about opening local files in Chrome and you'll get an understanding why it doesn't work.

RE: viewing help files with chrome?

@MickyV007,
I've tested and neither of those options work.
I personally stick with Firefox.

Same as I Anthony, but I was just looking for a solution. Will install Chrome tomorrow and try to find a solution.

RE: viewing help files with chrome?

Just out of curiosity, what's the problem with using IE?  Is it simply some philosophical or religious aversion, or is there something technical that we should be aware of?

I don't have problems with IE but I have many browsers on my PC and I'd like to get rid of some of them, and maybe keep just Chrome.
I like its extensions and customization and the way it uses memory.

RE: viewing help files with chrome?

The problem is that many people have an other explorer as standard browser, so hitting F1 will open it in that one.
Unless there is a way to select which browser you want to open (in NX, without affecting the rest of your system)...

RE: viewing help files with chrome?

Found a solution guys.
Goto your shortcut to the chrome browser, RMB, properties, in the target field you will see the path to the install directory C:\..\..\chrome.exe
Add this to the path name ..\chrome.exe --allow-file-access-from-files
Click OK. There should be a space between .exe and --
Attached a screen shot.

RE: viewing help files with chrome?

One side note, this is a developer mode, which decrease the overall security of the browser. So maybe you could create two shortcuts, one for viewing the help files with the switch and one without for browsing the internet.

RE: viewing help files with chrome?

How will you get NX to open the "--allow-file-access-from-files" version when you press F1 in NX?

Walterke, MickyV007 means you need to open the properties of the Chrome shortcut and execute

chrome.exe  --allow-file-access-from-files

instead of just chrome.exe

Anyway, this allows me to browse my computer files but I can't view NX files yet, the browser shows a blank page.  I guess it's related with Activex.

RE: viewing help files with chrome?

Have you installed the plug in from one of my previous posts (the allow opening file:// plugin) And adapt the settings of Chrome to allow java script?

I hope you mean that you would like to view the files like attachment or did i misunderstood you?

also type in the address bar the following :

chrome://plugins

and check if the Java plugin is checked (default is off) there are also some flash and shockwave plugins, i've enabled them too.

Michaël.

RE: viewing help files with chrome?

Ok, but why do i got it working without installing any ActiveX plugin?
Locate the mainlibrary.html file and open it with the CTRL+O function, together with the previous recommendations you should be able to fire up the help files.
This type of problems has my interest smile
