STL to solid
STL to solid
(OP)
Hello all,
I would really appreciate some help and advice. When it comes to bone modelling I can obtain STL file formats of a bone (which I understand is just surface data). From this I would like to make this part a solid model. I have tried using the Scanto3D module in Solidworks, however I can not seem to obtain a solid model, the options seem limited, when I import the STL into solidworks. Does anyone have any more success with turning this into a solid? I know it can be done, because, I found a solid bone model online at the following link:
http://www .3dcontent central.co m/download -model.asp x?catalogi d=171& id=87700#0
I am not sure how this was turned from a bone surface to solid model.
I have attached the STL I am having problems making into a solid model to the following link

Many thanks

RE: STL to solid
The 'regular' STL option will use the standard algorithm, regardless of whether you have ScanTo3D activated or not. As you've noticed, it's very limited.
Anyway, I did the conversion for you and have uploaded the model. It was fun! such a clean STL is somewhat rare, so it wasn't even a pain to make it solid, it had been a while I used ScanTo3D so any excuse to get to use it I'll take, cracked up the Help file and went through the steps... now that's what I call a perfect Sunday afternoon time waster, heck, it beats watching T.V. all day ;)
This was done on SolidWorks 2009 so you shouldn't have any problems opening it up, unless you're on a very old version of SolidWorks.
