Detecting symmetry

Detecting symmetry

Detecting symmetry

(OP)
Does anyone know of a tool the detect the symmetry plane in a 3D object? I have a scanned surface model in Solidworks. The symmetry check tool will not work with this so I need another option.  Any help is appreciated.

ctopher - Thanks for your response.  I have a scanned surface body.  It is a 3D scan of a helmet.  Unfortunately SW's symcheck won't work because 1) It is a surface not a solid and 2) there are no faces that are exactly symmetrical.  I'm thinking I may need to use something other than SW to do this.

RE: Detecting symmetry

1) Can you not thicken the surface to create a solid?

2) Can you not cut the surface model in half (where the symmetry plane should be) and then Mirror the half?
