ANSYS Simply Supported

ANSYS Simply Supported

ANSYS Simply Supported

(OP)
Hi

I want to analyse the buckling of a simply supported rectangular composite plate, and I am veryfying my results with ESDU. The plate is simply supported on all sides and is subjected to a axial force parrallel to the x-direction, on both ends of the plate. The aspect ratio of the plate is 2, with the force being applied on the smaller side of the plate.

I tried to constrain UZ on all sides, and then constrain UX on the lines parrallel to x, and then constrain UY on the lines parrallel to y. The buckling loads seem to high compared to ESDU, has anyone ever modelled this and can help me please?

RE: ANSYS Simply Supported

Double-double check your boundary conditions against the ESDU model - they appear to be slightly odd.

Do you have NLGEOM enabled? Elastic/plastic material properties? Is the mesh adequate? Element types?

Yes, I have double checked, my element type is fine, the orthotropic material properties are fine, and my mesh is adequate, its just my support conditions, ESDU says z should be constrained and no bending moment acting about the line of support and the support is applied only to the middle surface and Mxy = 0.

How would you model that?

RE: ANSYS Simply Supported

simply-supported might mean hinged.
