Method to determine PU foam solid density and specific surface

Method to determine PU foam solid density and specific surface

(OP)
I'm searching for methods to determine the following on the stated material, any suggestion would be very welcome!

Case:

Material= Hydrophilic flexible PU foam

To determine
- Solid specific density. (p*)
- Relative density (p*/p)
- Foam specific surface area (A/V, this is the surface area of the foam struts.

Sorry guys..... no questions for school. I've just wanted to keep the post plain and simple instead of a confusing story :)

I'm a quality engineer on this material however.... I don't have all the answers :)
The surface area I understood was measurable with a BET measurement however the solid density measurement is a different story. This material swells and I was wondering if I use the plain old pycnometer method if I have to correct in some way and how I must calculate the solid volume and mass of the material introduced.

Best to talk to the experts at Micromeritics. They make both instruments and can run samples in their lab to determine if there is an issue. They might also know of an ASTM spec that would apply which would give you a proven test method.

RE: Method to determine PU foam solid density and specific surface

OK, but it seems to me that if you could measure surface area, you have all the data required for solving for volume via numerical integration.
