New garage floor,how thick?what grade?fiber or re-rod
(OP)
I am building a new 3 car garage. After reading this forum I decided to ask for opinions. The cement floor is priced in the total quote for the garage.I had asked for 6" thick floor with fiberglass strands.now I see talk about insulation underneath, mesh or re- rod being neccesary, cracking floors etc.I would like to know the best way to do this as I only wan't to have it done once.I live in New England and plan to heat and A/C this garage the size is 31 x 40.
Thanks,Roy

If you want to use fiber enhancement, fiberglass is not the fiber you should use. At the least, use polypropylene fibers. Better yet, use steel fiber.
Reinforcing steel is not necessary, though welded wire mesh is OK to use, if placed properly.
Make sure the floor has joints at about 12 to 15 feet in each direction. Joints should be cut into the floor the same day of placement, not later (not even the next day!).

I am trying to do this right the first time,I had never heard of steel fibers (until this forum)but I will check to see if this is available in my area (central Mass.)What about hosing this down as it cures?

Yes. Keep it wet for at least 7 days. You'll get a much better concrete for doing so.
