hub centric vs lug centric wheels

hub centric vs lug centric wheels

Hello all. This is a question best answered by Tim Flater aka Xwheelguy, senior designer,Enkei Wheels.
Hello, this is a message for Tim Flater, senior designer at enkei.
Hello Tim,
I was very interested to read your posts regarding Lugcentric vs Hubcentric wheels and the use of spigot rings. Here in England I have a 1991  Mustang fitted with 16" Enkei basket weave wheels which I believe were original equipment on 1986 Saleen Mustangs. Please see attached photo's. The information on the back of the wheels is 19mm offset, and cast in is the following " JAPAN T/5 88/7 6M4-1 VIA JIL. these wheels have a bevel lugnut design and a VERY large clearance at the hub register.
My question to you is this, should these wheels be fitted with spigot rings and if so are they available from enkei?
Thanks in anticipation
Peter Craig

RE: hub centric vs lug centric wheels

SillySod,

If I remember correctly, Tim got out of the wheel business.  The fact that it has been 4 days since you posted this and haven't gotten a reply seems to confirm this.

What you need to do is contact the wheel manufacturer.  He should be able to tell you what rings are needed.

BTW, and this side of the Atlantic, we call these rings "hub rings".

Thanks Capri racer, I'll do that.

RE: hub centric vs lug centric wheels

Hello Peter.

As Capri pointed out, I am no longer involved with wheel design & even if I were, I probably wouldn't be able to help you out much, as those wheels were made a few years prior to the American side of Enkei even existing.

I seriously doubt that Enkei provided those rings (Saleen probably added those during the conversion process), however they might be able to point you towards a supplier from whom you could purchase.  I would try contacting the Enkei International sales office in Texas first - you should be able to find their number via Google.
