Controlling arrangements from the top level

Controlling arrangements from the top level

Controlling arrangements from the top level

(OP)
Hi All

Our machine master assemblies tend to include all types of options for each range, therefore it is very difficult to open a specific varient of machine quickly. I've been messing around with suppression in arrangements but there have been some quite quirky outcomes, especially if I have arrangements of the same name in various levels of structure.

I have been creating arrangments in lower levels eg Option 1, option 2, option 3 etc, and setting the suppression status in each of the components in these lower levels. Now the top level assembly will be read only to all but 1 person in each product team, so setting suppression status on the top level is very difficult but if the arrangements are named the same in every level, is it possible to choose the arrangement on the top level assembly and have that trigger all the lower level assembles to switch to the same arrangment? I'mn also not to sure what the inherit option does and when I have tried to use it, I have had some very ambiguous results.

Thanks guys

Si

Best regards

RE: Controlling arrangements from the top level

Arrangements are arrangement specific.

In other words, say you have:
"machine"
-"subpart1"
-"supbart2"
now say subpart1 has 2 arrangements, you can make 2 arrangements in "machine" where arrangement1 in machine shows arrangement1 in subpart1 and arrangement2 shows arrangement2. They don't have to have the same name, it just takes some time to set everything up.

Maybe a more practical example:
image a part in your main assy of which the location is determined by a cylinder. You can add arrangements to your cylinder (in/out) and then, in your main assy you can make arrangements cyl in/cyl out, which will cause the other part to move accordingly.

Hope this is the answer you're looking for.

RE: Controlling arrangements from the top level

Thanks for the reply Walterke, I have been able to do that, but the issue I face is that no body will have write access to the top level assembly, so what I want to be able to do is as people add assemblies lower down the structure, they can link their arrangements to the ones in the top level, therefore when someone opens the top level, they can select an arrangement which will trigger all the lower level arrangments to switch to that arrangement. The key thing here is that they will not have write access to the top level nor will they be able to get it, therefore any suppression that is supplied with the top level as the controlling parent will not be saved. It's all down to where the infomration for the suppression/arrangement lives I guess and if it lives in the top level I'm scuppered.

Best regards
