Is CADRE any good?

Is CADRE any good?

Is CADRE any good?

(OP)
Our company is looking for a low end FEA software package, can anyone give me any input on CADRE?  It's capabilities? How does it stack up agaist other FEA packages?  Price?

We need a tool for linear structural analysis (stress, strain, displacement, thermal).   Thanks in advance.

RE: Is CADRE any good?

CADRE Pro is an FEA application that is much more versatile than other lower priced FEA applications at several times the price.  It will do shock, vibration, stres/strain, stability, and include plate and beam modeling.  Solid modeling is not supported.

CADRE Pro is extensively used in civil engineering, shipbuilding in the automotive design industry (racing.

Priced currently at $385.00

RE: Is CADRE any good?

It seems to work well with beams of all types, and in fact is easier to do the typical FEA modeling than either FEMAP, PATRAN, or ANSYS-Modeler.  However the plate elements are another story.  If you have something with significant plate elements, you may want to set up your mesh first in AutoCAD (DXF import for Version 14).  It has some tools for creating triangular plate meshes - but these can become involved (armstrong-type mesher) and time consuming.

Results are accurate, and produced very quickly.  I have FEA experience, and it took me 2 days to go through all the tutorial/materials AND build a complex truss model (if there is such a thing).

The tutorials and manual are excellent.

My recommendataion is to buy this product!  It comes in handy, and its front end (although taking some getting used to with alt, shift, cntl keys to do basic element operations) is very efficient and easy to learn.  It's documentation puts ALGOR, FEMAP, PATRAN, ANSYS to absolute shame - meaning that the tutorials are EXCELLENT.  If nothing else, you should buy this tool to learn about FEA before jumping into $10,000+ for fancy codes.
