UV-C Lamps - Energy Savings

UV-C Lamps - Energy Savings

UV-C Lamps - Energy Savings

Has anyone done a calculation on energy savings from installation of UVC lamps in AHUs?
Mainly concerned with SP on a clean coil vs mold-fouled.

Can someone please direct me to a reputable study on mold-related coil fouling, perhaps?

Thanks.

RE: UV-C Lamps - Energy Savings

Well - from fundamentals the energy savings must be negative.

Fouled coil increases pressure drop.  Increased pressure drop reduces air flow.  Reduced airflow reduces the necessary fan power.

Then of course the lights use energy.

So clean coil + UV light must use more energy than fouled coil without light.

True, however airflow is assumed constant in this case.
In any given condition, fan VFDs will deliver the same CFM.

Contact some of the UVC manufacturers or look at their websites, I'm sure I've seen studies.  ASHRAE Journal may have something to say about it too.

I can't tell if MintJulep is being sarcastic or not...but there are savings in a VAV system that will speed up the fan to compensate for increased pressure drop through the coil that is fouled.

And the point of an analysis based on a known wrong assumption is what?
