What procedure should be for a U.S. PE to register in Ontario, Canada?

Hi, gentleman,

I am a registerd PE in IA, Mn and Mo, and I have NCEES record established, and now my company need me to apply for Ontario, Canada P.Eng. Could anybody please tell me what kind of procedure should I go through? Do I need to take Ontario PE exam? or just send application form and NCEES record is enough?

Your advice is highly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Depending on the amount of work you will be doing in Ontario there are a few licensing options available to you.  PEO is the governing body of professional engineering in Ontario.  Take a look at their website for more information.  http://www.peo.on.ca/

If I remember correctly, there is no reciprocity of licensing between the province of Ontario and the states here. But you can  apply for a limited licence on a project basis. Like DBond posted, you can get up to date info on peo web site.

If memory serves, I tried this at one time about 10 years ago.  They basically wanted you to live there or hire a co-engineer for every project.  Why bother - just hire the local engineer.

Things may have changed since then!!  Good luck.  Canada has some funny rules!!

You can easily Google and find the licensing jurisdiction!!

I fully support MiketheEngineer; just hire the local engineer:)

They haven't.  Although these rules are for Ontario, and not Canada.

@MTE, and the USA doesn't?  Best bet is to visit the website for PEO and then find the email address of the department that is most reasonable and write an email . . .  They are typically quite helpful.

they do have a temporary license ... if you're doing a one-off type job.
