Geotechnical Investigation
Geotechnical Investigation
(OP)
House is located in South Florida. Performed SPTs showed no sign of sinkhole activity. No expansive clays, just fine sand and limestone at 50-60 feet. BUT : interior floor in certain area is buckled (maximum difference in floor elevation about 4 inches) , ceramic tiles are broken and popped up. I'll be very thankful for any ideas what is going on.

RE: Geotechnical Investigation
Buckling tile most likely has nothing to do with soil conditions. It is likely only the tile has buckled and is most likely caused by shrinkage of the underlying concrete substrate. Provide a picture or two and a description of where the tenting occurs. Maybe we can help you enough to lead you to a local engineer who could observe and comment.
RE: Geotechnical Investigation
1- Has there been a major water leak?
2- Are you close to a descending slope?
3- Is the building pad partially on undocumented fill?
