Set DB_PART_NO, DB_PART_REV parametrically

Set DB_PART_NO, DB_PART_REV parametrically

Set DB_PART_NO, DB_PART_REV parametrically

(OP)
Is there a way to have the following Part Attributes set automatically (with no user intervention):

DB_PART_NO
DB_PART_REV

For example, if using military revisioning, part numbers might look like this:

123456.2.5

In this example, the Part Attributes' values would be:
DB_PART_NO = 123456
DB_PART_REV = 2.5

Is there a way, perhaps using new Attributes functionality in NX8, to have these values set with no manual intervention?  This would be super useful to avoid mistakes, say, upon new part creation and on Save-As for new revisions.

Thanks in advance.

RE: Set DB_PART_NO, DB_PART_REV parametrically

These are the sorts of Attributes which would generally be under the control of Teamcenter, hence the prefix 'DB' a in 'Data Base'.

OK, fine. Let's say you want to make some other Attribute, not starting with "DB_PART", and have it be parametrically linked as I indicated in my original post?

RE: Set DB_PART_NO, DB_PART_REV parametrically

Not sure what you're trying to do.  You can create attributes with any name you wish (there are a few exceptions and of course if you're running under Teamcenter, it will own most all the attributes which comes down the pipeline from the DB).  These can be done manually or automatically via custom programs.  And in the case of Expressions driving Attributes values, as long as the Attribute already exists, the Expression system can control the value of that Expression.

You can write custom programs to do the attribute name and have them run automatically.
