Hello,

could someone advice on the design approach for a vessel whose design pressure is greater than 3000psi(20MP) if the client stated that the vessel should be design to ASME BPVC Section 8 Div 1. this concern is based on this provision in the code: U-1(d) The rules of this Division have been formulated
on the basis of design principles and construction practices
applicable to vessels designed for pressures not exceeding
3000 psi (20 MPa). For pressures above 3000 psi (20 MPa),
deviations from and additions to these rules usually are
necessary to meet the requirements of design principles
and construction practices for these higher pressures.

Is section 8 Div 2 more appropriate ?

RE: design greater than 3000psi

Are you asking for the design of a pressure vessel for an application that exceeds 3.0 ski, or are you inquiring on the interpretation of ASME BPVC Section 8 Div 1, vs Div 2? You are very unclear.

Thank you all. Yes, i was asking of design of a pressure vessel for an application that exceeds 3.0 ski. The thread suggested by desertfox is really helpful.
