Outdoor oil filled xfmr with top bushings can it be fed underground?
Outdoor oil filled xfmr with top bushings can it be fed underground?
(OP)
We are installing a new xfmr, and had originally proposed a switchgear, but are trying to find ways to save $$ and looking for alternatives. This xfmr will be fed from 4 different feeds. None can be on the same time. It's HV bushings are located on the top. The attached sketch shows an idea: Use outdoor switches like an S&C Alduti-Rupter vertical switch, bring the cables in underground to a single switch, up to some bushings and swing over to the xfmr. I know anything can be made, but it would be much better if this were something readily available. Does something like what I'm talking about exist?
Any help would be appreciated.

Or, although it may be overkill, Elastimold (Thomas & Betts) makes an encapsulated fault interrupter MVI switch in various configurations including one with loadbreak elbow bushings on one side and air bushing terminators on the other.

As jghrist stated your least expensive option would be to connect to the end of the busses with bare conductors sized for the load via an above grade structure with insulators in front of the transformer and just terminate to the terminal bushings on the top without the expense of the underground work and transition section.
