Offset Trimmed Recipe Curve Doesn't Work

Offset Trimmed Recipe Curve Doesn't Work

Offset Trimmed Recipe Curve Doesn't Work

(OP)
Hey, I am trying to offset a trimmed recipe curve and when I click the trimmed recipe curve it only allows me to select the original recipe curve, which isn't what I want to do.  I am using NX 7.5.5, and have attached an image showing what I am trying to do.

Thanks,

RE: Offset Trimmed Recipe Curve Doesn't Work

When you go to pick the trimmed curve, hold down MB1 until the 3 dots appear next to the cursor. Now when you let go of MB1, the quick pick list will pop up allowing you to select the trimmed curve.

It won't ever bring up the quick list, like there is only one curve, and when I MB3 on and click pick from list, it only shows the original curve..

RE: Offset Trimmed Recipe Curve Doesn't Work

You're probably going to have to perform the offset and THEN perform the trim operations, in that order (see attached example).

I've tried that as well and it says that a spline can't be trimmed to a conical curve... I have a complex surface that was swept, and that is what forms my intersection curve.  Let me see if I can recreate in a non-proprietary file.

Thanks,
Chase

Okay, so I tried to set up a file, but it works like you said, John. Although in my actual file I get the error, Splines and General Conics cannot be extended to make a corner... Does that mean anything to you?

RE: Offset Trimmed Recipe Curve Doesn't Work

I think I see the problem, but don't know how to fix it.  When I constrain the arc to the intersection curve with a point on line and tangent, the point isn't actually on the line, so when I offset it is that is off of the line.  The arc is actually a little bit higher than the line, so the two never intersect, however, they should.  With the point on line constraint I don't understand how they could not intersect. It almost looks like a video glitch, but I don't think it is...

RE: Offset Trimmed Recipe Curve Doesn't Work

I'd have to see at least a 'sample' which exhibited this behavior before I could say for sure what's happening and why, and if there's any workaround or a way of avoiding this "glitch" in the first place.

Okay, I've trying to find think of a way that I can release the file, but it might take some time.  I will post if I can do it or not.

Thanks John.

RE: Offset Trimmed Recipe Curve Doesn't Work

You could always have GTAC look at it as they are set up to handle propritery data (of course I still wouldn't be able to see it, but someone who can help you will be able to).

Yeah that is a good point. I tried to dumb it down, but it keeps working...

RE: Offset Trimmed Recipe Curve Doesn't Work

That's why we've set up GTAC as we have so that they can see your exact models since many times the issue could be part specific and so without being able to see the actual part there's not much which we can do to help.

I'll call them today, and post what they find.

Thanks!

RE: Offset Trimmed Recipe Curve Doesn't Work

Ok, well I didn't call GTAC, but I did offset the original intersection curve and then just drew an arc and made it concentric to the original arc, and manually constrained with point on curve, and tangents. That worked well.
