Power supply for maglock

Power supply for maglock

Power supply for maglock

(OP)
Hello,

I inquire about how to find out how many electromagnetic locks could a 12V/24V power supply handle.

Thank you.

RE: Power supply for maglock

Dan is smiling while he's saying that since you haven't told us squat about the lock or the power suppy, the answer is not computable.

I apologize for the incomplete information.  What I meant is that generally for a delayed egress system 1 or 2 magnetic locks could be powered by a single 24V/3A power supply.  The base unit has power consumption of max. 0.33A.  So my question was with regards to how many base units (magnetic locks) could a single power supply unit handle.

Also does power supply unit get source power from 120V receptacle or does 1 or 2 power supply units are fused and receive power from a separate breaker.

RE: Power supply for maglock

If the lock unit's max current draw is 0.33A at 24V, then you could power at least nine of them from a 24V/3A supply.  I say 'at least' because they're unlikely to all be drawing max demand at the same time.  There should be a spec for quiescent current or something like that.

A typical 24V/3A DC supply could be powered by 115V at less than 15 amps, so it could be just plugged into a wall socket if it has a cord and plug, or one could be added.

We can't tell from here which catalog you're looking at.

Some "maglocks" (ill-defined - I'll assume the type used to hold a door firmly closed) are 'ON' nearly 100% of the time, at least after-hours when all the facility doors are locked. I assume that their steady-state current is the maximum.

Thank you Mike and VE1BLL.  I would assume if the delayed egress system consists of panic bars, key switch override and external sounder system the current draw from the power supply would be higher and that would affect the number of power supplies required to handle 9 delayed egress systems.

Please understand that, absent even a single part number, we are just guessing here.  Your mileage may vary.
