Having trouble exporting IGES files to solids

Having trouble exporting IGES files to solids

Having trouble exporting IGES files to solids

(OP)
NX 7.5.2.5

The iges files I create to export to Catia V5 R18 come in as trimmed sheet bodies, not unparamaterized solids. The Step file translator for Catia isn't an option as the company won't purchase it for Catia.

RE: Having trouble exporting IGES files to solids

When importing them into NX, try turning on the "automatically sew surfaces" option. If the edges are within modeling tolerance, NX will sew the sheets together and the result will be a solid body.

I'm not importing them into NX. Just trying to EXPORT them. according to another thread I just read here UG does not export any iges data as solids. I looked at the settings files and it's looks like it is either trimmed surfaces, wireframe edges, or none.

RE: Having trouble exporting IGES files to solids

In the data to export tab, try checking the solids option and unchecking the surfaces option.

Also check with the Catia translator, perhaps it also has an "automatic sew" option.

according to this thread:

"Well, it seems that I have answered my own question.  So for anyone who is having the same problem, this is the response from EDS tech support:

It can't be done.  The IGES export only exports surfaces and curves.  Not solids.  There is however a feature to stitch surfaces into solids from an IGES file.  The tolerances need to be set very low, however.

The only way to export a true solid is through a Parasolid or a STEP file."
