Why do I have to remove all colors to change a part's color?

Why do I have to remove all colors to change a part's color?

Why do I have to remove all colors to change a part's color?

(OP)
Within the past week I have had a new issue with coloring part files.  I open a parasolid file, and it converts to a part file, with an imported feature in the feature manager tree.  I right click on the part name in the feature manager tree, click on the appearances color ball, dropdown arrow, Left click on the part name (above "remove all part appearances"), and the Color/Image tab comes up with the basic button highlighted.  The part icon is hightlighted under Selected Geometry. Underneath the Seclected Geometry is the Color tab, with the up/down arrows to the right of it.  I click on the the double arrows up, and they change to pointing up, then down and they point down.  The Color pallet doesnt show up.  I have to go up to the Selected Geometry Tab and click on "Remove Appearance" button, then Ok, and reopen the color tab to get the color pallet to show up again.

If you follow that, please let me know why this has changed on me?  I used to be able just to open the part and change the color with one opening of that color box.

I don't know what (if anything) changed on you, but I rarely if ever use the method that you are using to change appearances.  The appearances color ball that pops up when you select anything just seems counter-intuitive to me and cumbersome.  In order to avoid any confusion and to keep a standard so SW doesn't get confused I always use the display manager to add/remove/adjust appearances.
