Make Current Feature

Make Current Feature

Make Current Feature

(OP)
Why is the command "Make Current Feature" so hard to find in NX? The only way to access this command is to right click the feature you want to make current in the part navigator, then search for it somewhere in the middle of a long list of commands. It takes ages to find. It doesn't have a shortcut. Not even an icon.

It's a real shame because it's one of the most important commands to navigate the part navigator in order to step back in history, to modify a feature, to step through feature by feature thereafter to check that all features update correctly. If you have a complex part with over 100 features, using the commands "Make first feature current" or "Make previous feature current" is impractical if the part you want to make current is in the middle of the part navigator. Also, there is no way to right click the feature in the graphics view, then select "Make Current Feature" from the list, it doesn't exist there. It's shocking that this command has so little prominence in NX.

Therefore, my plan is to create a shortcut attached to this command in order to make it easily accessible, but I can't find this command in the "Customize" dialog box. So then I tried to create a macro, but that doesn't work. Now I'm stuck. What options do I have to attach a keyboard shortcut to the "Make Current Feature" command?

RE: Make Current Feature

I agree with you CNSZU, in the earlier versions that was the first command in MB3 of any feature in model navigator. But now it is very much annoying to search for it.

RE: Make Current Feature

Simply select the feature of interest on the screen and then open the Part Navigator where you will see that it's already been selected.  And if you want to eliminate the step where you open the Part Navigator, just leave it pinned OPEN while you're performing these sorts of operations.

To an Engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

RE: Make Current Feature

John,

I think you misunderstood the question. When we right click any feature from model navigator, the "make current feature" command will be listed far away in the list, and its position in the list is also varying, which makes it difficult to locate.

RE: Make Current Feature

Well, something has to be "listed far away in the list" winky smile

RE: Make Current Feature

But not frequently used commands like 'make current feature'. At least some short-cut should have been there for that command. For instance Show/Hide commands, although they have shortcuts, but still they are listed earlier in the menu. The MB3 menu should not lose its 'user friendliness' with newer versions. The order of listing should start with more frequently used commands.

If not, there should be an option to customize MB3 menu of the features.
