Project and client information on a CV

Project and client information on a CV

Project and client information on a CV

(OP)
I am considering to include some projects I worked on during my time at this firm as well as what I did in those projects. Wonder if this is ok since I will list the name of the facility designed (even if I don't put the client's name, people will know who the client is).

Those projects are actually listed in the company's website as well.

Thanks.

RE: Project and client information on a CV

This is perfectly acceptable. You did, in fact, work on those projects so there is nothing dishonest in your claims.

RE: Project and client information on a CV

Just make sure that it's EXACTLY what you did and that there is no controversy about whether you did it or not.

I've caught a SENIOR management type lying about their participation in the very project I worked on; he claimed to be the solver of a problem we had, but his participation was limited to a few tiger team meetings where he contributed bupkis.

RE: Project and client information on a CV

Not an issue and agree with IRstuff about factual info.

RE: Project and client information on a CV

I think you can always mention the project and your role on it. This is always a nice addition to a CV and it gives some examples to support what you said you did in the x years you worked for this company. I can see how in rare cases the name, location and final client of the project might be a little inappropriate to mention. However, as the information is already in the public domain I think you should be comfortable mentioning up to the level of detail on the company website.

I'm not sure how much detail your putting down; but its also not a good idea, in my opinion, to mention problems on projects, especially if its embarrassing to the client or you former employer. You can always wrap this up in something like "over came a range of challenges", or "a complex fast track project with a range of challenges that had to be solved at short notice", etc, etc.

An additional point - its probably a bad idea to add so many projects in a great amount of detail that your CV grow to more then 2 or 3 pages. If you really want to list every project you worked on try tabulating it and including as an addendum or appendix to a CV. Although don't expect everyone prospective employer to take the time read it in detail.

Good luck with the job hunting.

RE: Project and client information on a CV

I agree with the above except to add that so long as the project is complete and there fore all facts are in the public arena. Do not run a risk of disclosing proprietor information on an ongoing project

RE: Project and client information on a CV

There may be confidentiality concerns with certain projects.  If so, it doesn't proclude you from including the project, but be careful not to release confidential information.  That will be a negative in your job search.  If in doubt, call it "4-Story Office Building" instead of "Defense Department X Headquarters"

RE: Project and client information on a CV

If you are worried - say something like "I was the project engineer on a 30m four lane highway bridge" or some non- specific entity.  NOBODY can disagree with that ??

Then you are not naming specific projects nor giving away the name of the company you currently work at or worked at??

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I think it's ok to state the project site and client's name since they are all stated on the company's website.

RE: Project and client information on a CV

Or you can document that you worked on the projects with copies of your timesheet...  Doesn't necessarily have to be on the website.
