Help With Aluminum Sulfate Mixture

Help With Aluminum Sulfate Mixture

Help With Aluminum Sulfate Mixture

(OP)
We have a home treatment system whereby we pump in pond water into two tanks where the water is treated by iodine, injected with an alum solution, then run thru sand and charcoal filter and finally thru a 1um final filter. The system works well and I have no complaints. To save myself driving long distances to buy aluminum sulfate mixed into gallon jugs, I have been thinking about  buying a bag of aluminum sulphate (AL2 (SO4)3 14H2O) and mixing it myself. Would save a lot of gas and time. The outfit we buy the alum from mixes it there and sells us the liquid but won't tell us the formula. We have a 20 gallon tank for the injector into which I add 2 gallons of the premixed alum.

Can anyone help me figure out how to mix this? I have found a couple of discussions on the site that talk about this in very technical ways.. they basically whoosh over my head. Many thanks!

RE: Help With Aluminum Sulfate Mixture

All companies are required by law to furnish MSDS information on chemicals that they manufacture and sell.

If you have the MSDS information, it will be possible to calculate the proper chemical amounts.

Basic information such as flow rates, chemical tank volumes and chemical pumping rates are needed.
