AWS-positions welds and throats

AWS-positions welds and throats

(OP)
I have few questions about welding according to AWS

1. Which is the equivalent to ISO 6947? I Know the position welds I use is 1F and 2F for fillet welds, but I can not find the american standar document.

2. Is there any rule/recommendation about throat in fillet welds between tube/plate, plate/plate,tube/tube?

Thanx

RE: AWS-positions welds and throats

AWS D1.1, figure 4.5 shows designation of positions of fillet weld.
Regards.

RE: AWS-positions welds and throats

Clause 2 in D1.1 includes several rules on the criteria for fillet weld sizing, and will also direct you to Annex II for calculating your loss factors for skewed fillets.

RE: AWS-positions welds and throats

I can agree with the statemeent that AWS D1.1 can be used for the design of structural welds such as groove and fillet welds.

Clause 2 covers the design of welds. Clause 3 addresses the requirements for prequalified welding procedures. Clause 4 provides information on the position designations for grooves and fillets. Clause 4 also contains 2 graphics that shows what test positions must be used to qualify a WPS or a welder based on production needs.

Best regards - Al
