tool and target body do not form complete intersection

tool and target body do not form complete intersection

I have a solid body that I'm trying to crate a curvature continuous blend on.  For various reasons soft blend won't work. I've created a sheet body using through curve mesh and various curve operations and everything shows up within tolerance but when I try to use the sheet to trim off the blend I get the above message.

is there something I'm missing?

It's patch isn't it?  I was missing the patch operator.

RE: tool and target body do not form complete intersection

Most often when this message shows up it is correct, the two sheets do not cross each other completely. zoom in and update the view to see if there is a tiny section where sheet that should trim the soft blend is too short. It needs to create a complete intersection to create the trim.
The patch feature will use the modeling distance tolerance to fix an eventual incomplete intersection and thereby succeed.

If the error message shows up and there definitely is a full intersection, it is a case for GTAC.

When you say you're "missing the patch operator" exactly what did you mean by that?

I mean I found the patch operator seconds after posting and now everything works fine.

(after wasting 2 days trying to do it other ways)

RE: tool and target body do not form complete intersection

The thing to keep in mind is that with NX there is something which is called 'tolerant modeling' which means that even if the edges of two bodies do not meet exactly as long as they are within the Modeling Tolerance distance NX will go ahead and take one of the edges as the models true edge and simply 'hide' the other edge.

Over time we've tried to us this 'tolerant' technology wherever it's practical.  However, for things like Sewing surfaces and Patching bodies, Tolerant Modeling has always been part of these tools.  We've done some work with Trimming and Booleans, but it's a bit trickier there, but things have gotten better.
