Can you help me out with this complicated beam deflection problem???
Can you help me out with this complicated beam deflection problem???
(OP)
Could someone help me derive the equation for this problem (on link below). The boundary conditions are: at x=0, deflection=0, and at x=0, slope=0. It seems like a simple cantilever beam problem, however, I don't know how to deal with the axial force. I tried using Beam-Column theory, but I can't seem to get it right. I appreciate any kind of help!

RE: Can you help me out with this complicated beam deflection problem???
1. Neglect it. Unless the deflection from the vertical load is significant, the eccentricity of the axial load is negligible.
2. Compute the deflection at the end then apply the axial load based on the resolved vertical force from the eccentricity of the deflection....it will be small

I did not mention that the beam is thin and it has large forces on it... as a result the beam has large deflections due to both axial and lateral forces...would I still be able to apply Option 2?
Thanks again.

Based on an overall length of 2L for the "beam", are we talking 2L/120, 2L/80...what deflection ratio?

As for the equations for the math solution, not me, maybe someone else.

Or choose a different support condition, I'm not sure to understand yours.
