Automatic 'Extrude until next' required within assembly.

Automatic 'Extrude until next' required within assembly.

I have a requirement which I would like some advice on.

I would like the option of having one part (let's call it partA)that has an extrude feature with 'until next selected' ONLY.

Imagine that the first part in the assembly is a round beam. Then I bring in my partA which is now positioned in the correct place in the assembly so that the 'incomplete' until next command will now register that the curved face of the beam is the feature to 'extrude until'. Once this happens I would like the newly completed part in the assembly context to be created & saved with a new part number.

Then, in a different assembly with a first part as a flat beam I would like to import partA and have the until next register the flat face of the flat beam as being the 'extrude until'. Then for NX to complete the solid and save off as another new part...

Does anyone know if such a method is available in NX6 /Teamcenter?

there is nothing out of the box that I can think of, but the reuse librabry makes light work of thing like that. Basically you can store 2D sections or 3D models as reuseable objects, insert them straight in to a new part. You could do this at assembly level then use the create new part feature in the assemblies tool bar, however if you want to use until next functionality within the extrude, then you will need to either wave link the face you wish to use as your until next object or make sure that you have your selection scope set to within entire assembly and the create interpart link enabled on your selection tool bar to create a WAVE link on the the fly.

Hello Simon - thank you for your reply. I will give something like the wave linker a try in conjuntion with the reuse parts.

Have you ever used the PTS application or heard anyone with some results from this for some automation??
