Pressure Vessel Thickness, Material and Market
Pressure Vessel Thickness, Material and Market
(OP)
Hi,
I need to make a pressure vessel with a thickness of 1/8''. But I only find ASTM A36 with 3/16'' minimum on the market. And ASTM A414 I can't find at all. Only if I buy a big quantity. Could someone tell me a ASME BPVC Section II Part D allowable material easy to find in the market with a thickness of 1/8'' and a minimun maximum allowable stress of 114 MPa. Thank you very much.

RE: Pressure Vessel Thickness, Material and Market
First off, what code are you designing to. I believe that SA-36 is only allowed for structural support in Section I applications. In terms thickness, try search for sheet instead of plate. Lastly, I typically use SA-516-70 in place of SA-36. Both are widely available (at least in the USA) but in my opinion 516-70 is a better material that is easier to work with.

We disigned a pressure vessel for compressed air which will work with a maximum pressure of 8 bar. I will search for the SA-516-70 and see if it available here in the market with 1/8'' thickness. I'm in Brazil. Do you know the specification in SAE or JIS of equivalent material for SA-516-70?
Thanks.
