Flow thro thick perforated plate

Flow thro thick perforated plate

Flow thro thick perforated plate

(OP)
Hi All,

I am trying to work out dp for flow thro thick perforated plate using method give in I.E. Idelchic - Handbook of fluid resistance, Diagram 8-3,

my parameters are:

Dia hole:3mm
Opening area:30%
pitch:4.3mm
thk:1mm

flow rate:36m^3/hr
viscosity:18cp
density:900 kg/m^3

assume
Lambda=0.02
and tau=1.16.

resistance factor=[(0.5+tau*(1-%open)^0.5*(1-%open)+(1-%open)^2+lambda*thk/dia hole]/%open^2

where using these formula my resistance factor work out as 18.6.
but reading from its result graph, using opening area and length over Dia hole, it should be some where around 17.

Would any one can help me figure out what I did wrong?

Thanks for all the comments

Regards

Reynold

RE: Flow thro thick perforated plate

I'm not familiar with this method.  I've used the method of Smith and Van Winkle.  Based on that, it looks like you are missing a way to calculate the hole Reynolds Number.  You need the total area of perforated plate (Ap).  Then, with the % Open Area you can get the total free area of holes (Af).  Then, the hole Reynolds Number.  Then, the orifice coefficient.  Etc.  I hope this helps.

Good luck,
Latexman

RE: Flow thro thick perforated plate

The pitch and hole diameter don't produce the percent open area that you claim for either 60 degree staggered centers or straight centers.

Yes you are right, its about 44% open
