Appropriate shield gas for plasma welding of electrical steel .020''?

(OP)
Now we weld a stack of electrical steel of .020'' thickness with argon (purity of 99.99) for a stator but the argon is so expensive.

Could you recomend another shield gas or a mixture of gas for this kind of work?

Thanks

RE: Appropriate shield gas for plasma welding of electrical steel .020''?

Reduce your shielding gas flow until you get bad welds, then bump it up a notch.
OR
Find some other way to retain the stack, so you don't have to weld it at all.

Stargon. It is a mixture of argon with CO2.
