Fire resistant carbon

Fire resistant carbon

Fire resistant carbon

(OP)
Hello,

I work within the aviation industry. My main products of manufacture are aircraft interiors. For this process we use glass cloth with phenolic resin in prepreg form. Just out of interest does anyone know of a fire resistant prepreg which uses a carbon cloth? I would be very interested to know if anyone uses a prepreg of this sort or to know of a possible supplier.

I would like to look in to this for research and design purposes. I have heard that there is a material like this on the market.

I look forward to hearing from you guys.

Thanks.

Call J.D. Lincoln in Costa Mesa, CA, USA.  They will work with you in selecting a custom prepreg to meet your needs.

RE: Fire resistant carbon

All the major prepreggers will have phenolic resin products. About ten years ago Boeing, Spokane, switched a lot of their interiors from carbon to glass phenolic to save weight. Although carbon is lower density, you can get much thinner fabrics in glass than in carbon.

RE: Fire resistant carbon

Jim, Cytec makes a couple products. We use their Cycom 2290 phenolic resin with carbon fabric and glass fabric.
