UG NX7.5 Invisible Unselectable object out in space?
UG NX7.5 Invisible Unselectable object out in space?
(OP)
**I have attached a NX7.5 .prt file for example.
The issue is that sometimes our part files will suddenly have an unknown object out in space that ends up messing with our standard views. (TOP, BOTTOM, SIDE etc.)
Normally clicking 'Top' view will move camera to absolute top-down view and fit the geometry to current display.
If you click on 'top' view in the part I attached the camera pivots to absolute top-down, but then zooms out as if there were an object out in space. In the example its just a dumb solid, no lines/arcs, points, datums, or anything else that I can find. There are also no layers aside from #1(work).
Every view has the same result.
Also, if you enter drafting and create a new base view, the view boundary also extends out in space to include this mystery object. In drafting I also cannot see or select the object, and a 'view dependent edit'> 'Erase objects' will not show me anything either.
In the example attached, this mystery object is fairly close to the actual body so the views are easily manageable.. Sometimes this object is thousands of millimeters away from the geometry and leads to errors when trying to cut drafting sections and projected views.
Has anyone run into this issue or have any suggestions?

John L - I have also been able to workaround past occurrences by removing parameters, then splitting, cutting or deleting/replacing faces. This just isn't a solution :/

Now incase you are not familiar with the term 'bounding-box', every object in NX, such as a solid, sheet body, component and to a lesser extent, curves and points, has defined as part of their database a rectilinear 3D 'box' which the object is wholly contained within. This 'bounding-box' is used when operations are performed which deal with the size of an object, such as when you do a 'display fit' this is used to quickly determine the scale of the view needed to show the largest image that's completly on the screen with a little bit left over, which BTW you can control by going to...
Preferences -> Visualization -> View/Screen
...wher you can set the 'Fit Percentage' (the larger the percentage, the less 'white space' around the model after a 'Display Fir' operation).
Another big use for this is during an operation such as interference checking. In order to make something like that run as fast as possible, the first pass by the software checks to see if any bounding-boxes are interfering, which can be done very quickly since all they really do is check to see if one of a 'boxe's' 8 vertices (corners) are INSIDE of any other 'box'. If they are then that pair of objects is looked at more closely to see if they actually do interfer or not. However, if there were no vertices of one box inside another than I don't have waste any time looking at that pair of objects since by definition, they can't possibly interfere.
There are some other uses for the 'bounding-box' but I think you get my point that something appears to have been messed-up for this particular object resulting in its 'bounding-box' being longer than it really needs to be.
Anyway, you may still need to get this to GTAC to have them try and fix this if the methods already discussed are not suitable.
