Exporting web based 3D spinnable models?

Exporting web based 3D spinnable models?

Exporting web based 3D spinnable models?

(OP)
The marketing people at work would like to take SolidWorks 3D assemblies of products and produce web-based 3D spinnable models that they can put on the website, similar to car manufacturers' websites having the 360 degree spin views. Anyone know how I could go about this? There are two options: one where the item spins on its own and is not controllable, OR you spin the item with the mouse (this would be preferable), and I don't know how to go about either... Thanks in advance!

RE: Exporting web based 3D spinnable models?

Does Solid Works allow you to export a file in the VRML format?  If so, this might be your best bet.

For more information on the VRML technology, go to:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VRML

Note that there are many 'free' VRML viewers available on the web if you just look for them.

RE: Exporting web based 3D spinnable models?

You should be able to save the Solidworks file as an eDrawing.

Then you can open the eDrawing and save it as an .html file.

You should be able to open the .html directly with your web-browser, it should automatically download an add-in.

This should give you a rotatable model that you can access thru a web-browser.

Your on your own for figuring out how to imbed the html file into your web page.

Hope this helps, or gets you in the right direction.

Export as a 3dVia file and it can be viewed free with 3dVia Shape

The installer is mad (very) small because it downloads the rest by .NET or some such method so I attached it here thank you Engineering.com
