Will Nitronic 60 be ok with 17-4 or 303 galling.

Will Nitronic 60 be ok with 17-4 or 303 galling.

Will Nitronic 60 be ok with 17-4 or 303 galling.

I have a Nitronic 60 v thread I am making an adapter for. I want to use either 303 or 17-4. it just depends on what my machine shop has so I can get it quick. Isnt Nitronic 60 good for not galling? Will it gall when screwing together with 303 or 17-4..probably H1075?

thanks

I re-read my post and it didnt make sense. So I will re-write. I have a threaded sub (made from nitronic 60) with a 15/16-10 V thread that I need to make an adapter so we can screw our tool onto it. I know that Nit60 is a good material for its anti gall properties, but just was not sure if it would be fine screwing 303 stainless onto it? I would also like to know for future designs because we are always screwing 17-4 and 17-4 parts together (with copper plated threads or armoloy plated)and Nitronic60 would  be a good candidate for some of these lower strength parts.

The 303 could be an issue just because it is soft.
17-4 and Nit 60 should be a good combination.

Agreed, 17-4 vs. Nitronic 60 should be good.

aroundhere,

Typically, the harder the material combination you use the better anti-galling properties. One of the biggest factors affecting galling is the real contact area of an interface; the harder the material combination the lower the real contact area.

great information guys....thanks much

RE: Will Nitronic 60 be ok with 17-4 or 303 galling.

You should never thread 304 with 304 unless you use a solid lubricant. Even then you can have problems after many cycles. Remember for austenitic steels soft-on-soft seizes and hard-on-soft galls. Hard-on-hard is the only way you can get a mild-wear condition for austenitic steels.
