NX6 mirror component in assembly

NX6 mirror component in assembly

NX6 mirror component in assembly

(OP)
hi,

i did find a few trheads that looked like my problem but it wasnt the same..
i've made a LH part and i need to mirror it. when i mirror it with the function "mirror assembly" and mirror it through a plane. i just get the same part but then turned in many ways with the "cycle mirror solutions".. but still not mirror'd just turned. when i use "create mirror geometry" i get the RH part, but i cant move or turn it, or put constrains on it(because you cant move or turn it)
can someone help me with this? i have the LH part and i need the RH as an other solid.

Thnx, BG, Chevy

RE: NX6 mirror component in assembly

When you're running the Mirror Assembly Wizard, when you get to the step immediately after when you selected the 'mirror plane' you will see a list of the components that you have selected in a previous step.  The default for each of these parts is to simply 'move' them from from one side to the other, however if you select the items which you wish to be MIRRORED, you will note that a couple of icons below the listing window will become active.  Simply select the one to the left of the 'Delete' symbol, the icon labled 'Assign Mirror Geometry Operation'.  You will see that the icon next to the Component name in the list has changed indicating that this particular Component will have a mirror copy created.  The other Components will simply be copied as is.

yes i know that.. i have tried that.
thnx for the comment though.. but thats the problem, when i do that, its the same as the "create mirror geometry" as i stated earlier. it the part that i need, but i cant move it.. when i move it and click oke/apply it just teleports to the spot on where its mirrored i need the part to be mirrored, but move individually from its 'parent'
i have the LH part but its a complicated part and i wish that the part itself is mirrored and be used elsewhere or in an other way..

RE: NX6 mirror component in assembly

The 'Mirror Assembly Wizard' is intended to be used for mirroring the Components inside an existing Assembly.  If what you're trying to do is simply get a model which is a mirror of some other model so that you can build an Assembly and add this mirrored part as it's own Component, using the Mirror Assembly Wizard for doing that is actually a bit of 'over kill'.  Granted, at the end of the 'Mirror Assembly Wizard' process, you WILL have a new Part file which is a mirrored model that is then usable on it's own as a Component in any other assembly.  However, if ALL you wanted was the new Part file, the quickest approach is to simply create a normal WAVE linked part inside a new Part file using the WAVE type 'Mirror Body' operation.

mm.. i suppose i want that.. i just want the a mirrored version of my own part as a new part.. so if it is the WAVE thing youre talking about, i found it but i really dont understand how that works.. i have to select curves.. so i have to select all the curves in the part or how does that work?

RE: NX6 mirror component in assembly

thats also not really the thing i need.. cause i still cant move this piece..
its the same as when i use "create mirror geometry".
i need a mirrored part but isnt related to its plane which its mirrored on..
as in.. 2 hands(i know that hands are not exactly the same..):
when i move my left hand, i dont want the right one to be moved, but move seperate from the other one, though its a mirrored version. with this function, i cant move the mirrored part.. the visual is good, and its a seperate part thats nice and its the shape it has to have. but its restrained to the plane..

RE: NX6 mirror component in assembly

Why are you trying to move it?  Why not just place the part in your assembly for what it is, the opposite handing of the original part?  That's why they are in two different files so that they can be used in an assembly as if they were different part files.

RE: NX6 mirror component in assembly

But if you've got your heart set on moving it inside its own part file, then just use...

Edit -> Move Object...

...with the 'Move Original' toggled ON, 'Move Parent' toggled OFF and 'Associative' toggled ON.
