Irregular Pattern (Array)

Irregular Pattern (Array)

Irregular Pattern (Array)

(OP)
hi
in 7.5 i am trying to create a pattern that has an irregular shape, ie along a curve/spline. i am trying to put as example a pattern of bosses at a distance along a curve. the boss has a rib which must remain perpendicular to the driving curve. i would like to use "instance geometry" but the option of "along path" does not give me all the options as if i used "point set". the number of positions can change(length). any suggestions would be helpful.

RE: Irregular Pattern (Array)

If the 'rib' on the original boss was created perpendicular to the 'driving curve' then the 'ribs' on all the copies should be perpendicular to the curve as well.  See my attached example and even if you go back and edit the shape of the sketched spline, the result should be as you expect it to be.

hi john
yes that works, however the instance geometry does not give me the distance option. this is what i was looking for. the requirement that i have is for the geometry to be placed at a specific dimension along the curve. i do like the fact that the instanced geometry stays normal to the curve. i think my only option is to make a template or udf and bring the geometry in individually and place accordingly.

You could create an offset curve from the original one and then reference that curve for the Instance Geometry function.
