Cable Pulling Calculations
Cable Pulling Calculations
(OP)
When pulling a new 600 volt feeder, consisting of (4) 500 kcmil and (1) 4/0 grd; I am confused about what diameter cable to use in the weight correction factor calculation. Or, if I can even use that formula for weight correction factor. Cablec's old manual just says that if all cables are not the same use a weight correction factor of 1.4. But that is killer in my tension calc. Does anyone know more and/or can anyone give me the basis of this factor? Feeder is going into existing 4" PVC duct.

RE: Cable Pulling Calculations
To be honest w/ you, I've never done tension calc's on low-voltage feeders. MV and HV, but not low voltage. It's usually not a concern. Now having said that, if you're pulling more than 3 conductors, that falls under the "complex" cable installation as outlined in the Southwire Cable Manual. So you'd use the 1.4 factor. The WCF calc's are used only for 3 conductor pulls.
