Step away from the computer.  Get on the phone and dial the pros NOW!

From "BigInch's Extremely simple theory of everything."

RE: hot taping in hight temperature service

In the late 80s - early 90s, I was part of the task force that developed a Safe Work Plan for executing a coffin repair over a steam leak in a 900# steam system.  That little project is actually a common OHSA case study now.  The noise level alone limited the daily exposure - with hearing protection - for each welder to 15 minutes.  That's the closest thing I have ever come to hot tapping into a live steam line.

The trouble with finding a leak or creating a leak in high pressure steam is that you might first discover it after it's burned through your Nomex or cut your hand off or something.  As BigInch suggested, this is one that I'd hand over to a hot tapping specialist.

Regards,

SNORGY.
