Steel column Inspection, Flaw detector/Thickness gauge

Steel column Inspection, Flaw detector/Thickness gauge

Steel column Inspection, Flaw detector/Thickness gauge

(OP)
I have been contracted to inspect steel columns where the columns are corroded near the street level which is about two feet above the anchor bolts. Not all the corrosion is apparent and is on the interior. I have been researching Flaw Detectors/Thickness Gauges and think this would be helpful for my inspection. Typically the columns are HSS10x10x 1/2".  I am looking for any suggestion on what type and model is adequate since the price range varies quite a bit. Currently I am looking at the DM5E Series Wall Thickness Gage.

Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Steel column Inspection, Flaw detector/Thickness gauge

The DM5e would be fine if you want the information for analysis purposes. If you are trying to assess delamination/exfoliation and will be doing so in a forensic application, you might want to go with a more dedicated corrosion gage such as an Olympus MG2 series or a Krautkramer thickness gage.  Having one with B-scan capability is better for corrosion measurements.
