Vertical Vessel Maximum Dimension of Window Patch

Vertical Vessel Maximum Dimension of Window Patch

Vertical Vessel Maximum Dimension of Window Patch

(OP)
I need a reference for calculation method to find maximum dimension of window patch at any location of vessel shell. This calculation is to ensure the stability of vertical vessel during window patching process without any temporary support required. Consideration to be given for weight and wind loading during shell plate removal. Optionally, include method where temporary stiffners (supports) are installed to prevent deformation and add support, including sizing requirements for stiffners.

RE: Vertical Vessel Maximum Dimension of Window Patch

Can you tell us more about the vessel ? Is it an ASME stamped vessel and in what country is it located

Is this a process distilation column ?

Are there trays or packing inside and will there be an attachment to the patch plate ?

Can you provide sketches and details of the original vessel, its MOC and operating temperature ?

How is the vessel supported ? Skirt or legs ?

Thanking everyone for their response.  In reply to MJCronin:
The vessel is ASME VIII Div 1, located in USA, process distillation column with multiple sections of packing at the bottom section and trays on the upper section.  It is skirt supported, shell is 10' OD at bottom section with cone reduction to 8' OD at top section, overall height aprox. 100 Ft.  Patch plate is due to nozzle replacement at the bottom section.
Encapsulation of the nozzle and 2'x4' shell area is NOT an option in this case.  A flush patch plate is being considered.  Would prefer calculation method not requiring FEA.  Thanks.
