I followed the earlier thread with interest as I want to do some research on a gasoline fuel pump with a copper commutator. Can anyone tell me the order number of the Bosch EKP3 pump referred to in the earlier thread or any other suitable pump.
Are copper commutators still current, or have they been replaced by carbon

Its been a few years but, gasoline systems typically used copper coms with a variety of brush compositions to deal with different gasoline mixtures. Carbon coms were the last resort in dealing with agressive gasoline mixtures due to increased costs.
Some authorities had it that diesel fuel needed a carbon com to achieve good durability but this may also depend on the system pressure and the current draw.
Commutator shape may also have a bearing on life.
The EKP3 and 4 pumps have a barrel shaped commutator, ND pumps use face coms.
I can't remember the part numbers now but if you go to a Ford dealer and ask for a pump for the following vehicles, you will get the performances shown:
1988 Escort XR3i 120litre/hr @ 5 bar
1989 Escort XR3i Turbo 150litre/hr @ 5.8 bar
