SW 2012 SP2 sketch picture functionality and Insert->Picture

SW 2012 SP2 sketch picture functionality and Insert->Picture

SW 2012 SP2 sketch picture functionality and Insert->Picture

(OP)
I have just "upgraded" to SW 2012 SP2 and am seeing two problems right off the bat:

1. Insert->Picture does not seem to work while in a sketch (or otherwise). There is simply no option to insert a picture under my Insert menu whether I'm in an active sketch or otherwise.

2. If I insert a picture using Tools->Sketch Tools->Sketch Picture, then I only see the first page of the Sketch Picture PropertyManager. Tools->Add-Ins->Autotrace has been checked under both "Active Add-ins" and "Start Up", and I have even rebooted the computer in case that was causing it not to register the add-in properly. Nothing works to show the second page of the Sketch Picture PropertyManager with the Autotrace functionality.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as it's driving me bonkers! I'm familiar with these functions as I have used them repeatedly in SW 2010 without issue.

RE: SW 2012 SP2 sketch picture functionality and Insert->Picture

I'm also running SW12-SP2;

1) I believe Insert > Picture has been replaced with the Insert > Object method. I have no documentation to back that up though. Dragging & dropping an image while it is open in an OLE compliant viewer also works.

Another method is now a system setting. See the Image File option at http://help.solidworks.com/2012/English/solidworks/sldworks/hidd_options_system_colors.htm

What you are trying to do can probably also be achieved within the PV360 mode.

2) Works for me. You may have to dig around for how to re-register the DLL for that add-in.

CorBlimeyLimey,

For #1, are you saying that you also don't see the Insert->Picture option when you're in an active sketch?

RE: SW 2012 SP2 sketch picture functionality and Insert->Picture

That is correct.

RE: SW 2012 SP2 sketch picture functionality and Insert->Picture

Just discovered the Insert > Picture option is available when in an assy ... but doesn't appear to do anything.

RE: SW 2012 SP2 sketch picture functionality and Insert->Picture

TeejT,

Well I guess we, they've already covered the
Tools > Add-ins > Autotrace being enabled.
That is of course if you have Local Admin privileges which are required for SolidWorks to save your settings changes and it seems this is the case.

Never use Insert Object as it can't be used for Autotrace and typically there will be problems with OLE. I see you figured that one out Mr. CorBlimeyLimey :).

Regarding how to re-register the dll file,
To register the .dll file open a command window.
[b]Start > Run > cmd.exe {Enter}[/b or just use cmd
type the following "regsvr32 " then drag-drop the .dll file from Windows Explorer into the CMD window and it will have the full path within double quotes so you don't need to be in the directory first to register it.

Looks like this might be one of those SolidWorks Bugs? In case you've never seen one of those before. I know for some people that might be is the case but for the other 99.9% of us... rofl
